During this project we as a class produced a play; A greek tragedy and that tragedy was too include a social issue and was written by students. We started out with simply writing a play in groups of two and then pitched them to the class, then we narrowed them down and were put in groups of four. After we were put in groups of four we pitched our ideas again and narrowed it down too three plays. After we had our final three we narrowed it down to one play and that play was called "The Red Card."
The play produced "The Red Card" was about a girl who was a goody goody who had a promising life as a prominent soccer player joined a gang due to her dirt bag boyfriend. The main characters were named Isabella played by Gisselle Artega, Mark played by Angel Tapia, and Jose played by Gerardo De La Riva. Isabel was the soccer player, Mark was her dirtbag boyfriend, and Jose was Isabella's Dad who is a cop. I believe the social issue that was gone over was Teens Joining Gangs but I am not 100% positive.
My personal role during was an actor and I played a played back Humorous Cholo who has a troubling life as a teen and is tight with Mark. I believe the two most memorable lines that I had was "Damn it Alexa I'm not going back to juvie for this" and "You know I can't keep those fine ladies waiting much longer." I was glad because after the play and the days following a lot of people came up to me and said they loved my lines even though I had a total of 6 lines. I was also part of the Set Crew but due to the fact that I play baseball for High Tech High I missed a lot of the afternoon's and didn't contribute a tremendous amount to the Set although I helped with making the big props like a bench.
My overall learning experience was honestly not great. I know that the director has too take charge but I felt like simply the whole time I was critiqued on every little thing that I did and it simply was not a fun project. I kept my cool and didn't show that I did not enjoy this project but deep down I knew that I could not wait to get it over with. People might disagree with me but its my opinion and I don't think it is a realistic statement that everyone LOVED this project and the process of producing it.
