What we first did for the cube project was simply went through and were given an explanation about the elements of art. We were given packets and each page had three boxes where we would draw a sketch and next to it there was room for feedback. Each page also represent one of the seven elements of art so in a total we drew 21 sketches with seven of them being our final sketches. For the feedback section we would exchange our paper with someone in the class and we would both give each other feedback that was helpful but at the same time kind, we were only allowed to get feedback from someone once so that ensured that nearly everyone in the class would give you a critique at one point in time.
After we were given feedback we re drew our first sketch except this time we would use the critique/ feedback we were given from the following sketch to improve our sketch. We did this twice which gave us two opportunities to get feedback just to ensure that our final draft would be the best. After we had all of 7 of our final sketches we were to choose six of them and re draw them on a cube. each side of the cube represented an element of art so you would end up with a cube that represent all of the elements of art.
Learning:
For the learning aspect of this project I learned a lot, for example I knew the elements of art but I never knew the background of each element. I also learned so much more about famous artists that had paintings or pieces of art based off elements of art. I also got a more in depth description of each element and how I could use them to draw a sketch that really represented myself. I really enjoyed seeing the different visuals for each element and the examples given because for me personally it is easier to work if I have something to look at or an example.
The feedback aspect actually really helped me with each draft and I liked how I was really given ideas on how to make it better instead of just feedback that says, "it looks good" because that tells me nothing on how to improve it. I really haven't been a fan of feedback because it is almost always the same vague comments on how they think it looks cool while for this feedback I was given real suggestions and some feedback's even drew examples which was just great. Another thing that I learned from the feedback is that, and we all know this but I shouldn't expect my first draft to be great because over time it can always get better.
As far as the revision process it goes along wit the feedback and I touched up on it but I truly understood that first drafts shouldn't be very good because it is just a rough idea of what you envision your final product to be. I almost always want my first draft to amazing because I am just a perfectionist and I want everything to be perfect. When in reality your final draft should be something you're proud of and if you try to make your final draft your first draft then what will you build off that, not much or at least in my mind that is how I think. I think that the biggest thing that I will take away from tis would have to be revisions take time and if you rush that than chances our you won't truly be proud of your work.
